What’s on the Menu: A Tour of the Categories

Part 2 of the welcome series

I’ve organized the recipes into categories — some are already on the site, some are coming as I keep building. Here’s the lay of the land:

  • Appetizers — small bites for entertaining, or for eating solo on the couch. No judgment. Think a bright, kicked-up Avocado Tartare.
  • Main Dishes — the Tuesday-night workhorses, plus a few weekend splurges. Shrimp & Apple Kabobs live here.
  • One Pan Dishes — for the nights when even my tolerance for dirty dishes has a limit. (Brent approves of this one — less to tidy up around.)
  • Side Dishes — including my favorite: vegetables tossed with olive oil, salt, and pepper and roasted in a stone pan until they’re caramelized and a little crispy.
  • Salads — green and otherwise.
  • Soups — year-round, but especially when the Iowa winter shows up.
  • Sauces — because a good sauce does a lot of heavy lifting.
  • Breads — including the Ciabatta my granddaughters love stretching into what they call “slime bread.” There’s nothing slimy about the end result.
  • Sweets — sometimes you just need dessert.
  • Drinks — Friday happy hour lives here. Wine spritzers, mocktails, whatever’s flowing.
  • Canning & Fermentation — for when the garden gives you more than you can eat fresh.
  • Herbs & Gardening — what I grow and how I use it. The garden feeds the kitchen, so it gets its own spot.
  • Delightfully Simple — the recipes that prove good food doesn’t have to be complicated. This is the heart of the whole site.
  • This & That — the catch-all for everything that doesn’t fit neatly into a category. More on that one next, because it might be my favorite.

I’ll be adding plenty more recipes and tips frequently. The kitchen is never done, and neither is this site.

Next up: Meet Brent — my husband, my support team, and the guy behind the camera.
